Okay its kinda morbid:p
Its post apocalyptic, on north america. The land is divided between 13 districts, and The Capitol. District 13 rebelled, and now there are 12 when the story starts. To maintain order and prove their power, The Capitol forces each district to send a girl and a boy tribute from 12-18 to The Capitol to fight to the death in an arena. It is a televised event, and a big entertainment source for pampered Capitol Citizens. Every year there is a 'reaping' where the two kids are picked. You are allowed to volunteer to take the called persons spot, but that rarely happens in the poorer districts. Except the main character, Katniss, her sister Prim is called. She is only 12, and would be dead in a minute in the Hunger Games, so Katniss volunteers to go in her spot. The other tribute from her district is Peeta. the first book is how Katniss survives the hunger games and the big twist at the end, and then the series is about trying to overthrow the Capitol.
Im really bad at explaining things, if you can tell, but its a really good book!
